Why TPAs deduct room rent proportionately, and what it costs you

Proportionate deduction happens when a patient occupies a room costing more than the policy's room rent limit. Most Indian health policies then reduce all other associated charges — surgeon fees, OT charges, investigations — in the same proportion as the room rent excess, not just the room charge itself. A hospital that admits a patient one room category above their eligibility can therefore lose a share of the entire bill, not merely the difference in room rate.
